Speed Watch in Your Community

Speed Watch is a community-driven initiative dedicated to increasing public awareness about speeding in school zones, playgrounds, and other high‑risk areas. The program encourages drivers to slow down and prioritize the safety of everyone in our community.

Supported by the Shawnigan Lake RCMP, ICBC, and SCCPAS, the program deploys trained volunteers – working in pairs alongside the Community Policing van – who use RADAR equipment and an electronic reader board to monitor vehicle speeds.

Help make our roads safer. Become a Speed Watch volunteer and contribute to reducing speeding in your community.

Police will be increasing enforcement across the province, and our Cowichan Valley volunteers will be conducting Cell Watch deployments to remind drivers to keep their phones out of hand while driving. For more information on how you can help address distracted driving, please see ICBC’s distracted driving campaign.

Cell Watch – Leave Your Phone Alone

Distracted driving is now the second leading cause of fatal motor vehicle collisions – surpassing impaired driving – and it’s the main cause of rear‑end collisions, which often lead to injuries. This campaign focuses on stronger enforcement and enhanced public education to help reduce this unsafe and dangerous behaviour.
