South Cowichan Community Policing, Speed Watch, RCMP & ICBC Launching a NO NEED FOR SPEED Campaign
Yes, you still have to slow down for school zones. As everyone settles into the “new normal” with the COVID-19 pandemic, the RCMP detachments in Shawnigan Lake, North Cowichan/Duncan and Lake Cowichan want to remind the public to obey traffic laws within their communities. Although classes have been suspended for in-school learning, the schools in School District 79 remain open.
With fewer vehicles on our roads right now, drivers may be tempted to speed.
Even though it seems safer with fewer cars on the road, it isn’t.
Speeding increases your risk of crashing and reduces the amount of time you have to react to the unexpected.
ICBC is asking that we all do our part to prevent crashes, keep people safe, and avoid putting additional pressure on B.C.’s first responders and medical resources.
Fines for speeding are as follows:
- Speeding less than 20kmh over: $138
- Speeding 21-40kmh over: $196
- Excessive Speed 41-60kmh over: $368 plus a 7 day vehicle impoundment
- Excessive Speed over 60kmh over: $483 plus a 7 day vehicle impoundment
