Pink
Pink Shirt Day takes place annually across Canada to raise awareness surrounding the problem of bullying which is continued a problem in our schools, workplaces, and online. Pink Shirt Day aims to raise awareness to these issues and will take place this year on February 26th.
Pink Shirt Day traces it’s roots back to 2007, when grade 9 students David Shepherd and Travis Price along with their friends. Organized a protest at their school in Nova Scotia, where they handed out pink shirts to all the other boys in their school to protest the bullying of another grade 9 boy, who was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. The movement now takes place across Canada and continues to grow each year with other countries following suit with their own anti-bullying awareness days and fundraisers, such as Japan, New Zealand, China, Panama, and many others.
Participants wear pink shirts to symbolize their commitment to standing up against bullying and spreading kindness. The importance of Pink Shirt Day lies in its role in fostering a culture of empathy, respect, and support, ultimately creating safer and more inclusive environments for everyone.
This 2025 the date lands on Wednesday February 26th. Please wear pink to help promote anti-bullying and continue to support this initiative, this includes sharing thoughts experiences and practices that align with the initiative.
We wish you all the best this #PinkShirtDay
