Police Alert – Arrest of Break & Enter Suspect – Mill Bay Break-ins
On 2013-05-15, an intensive investigation into a series of break and enters conducted by the Shawnigan Lake RCMP, Island District Forensic Identification Section and Island District Police Dog Services, culminated in the arrest of a 19 year male in the Mill Bay area.
The 7 break and enters, which were all residences within the Mill Bay area, occurred between May 9 and May 15th. The offences all occurred during the day when the home occupants were gone. Most of the houses were entered through insecure windows. A variety of items were stolen including jewelry, computers/laptops, cameras and money. Some of the stolen property has been recovered and will be returned to the owners.
The accused Michael BROTHERSTON previously of Duncan was staying at the Bamberton Provincial Park during the time period of the break and enters. He remains in custody with an appearance in Duncan Provincial Court, May 21st.
The investigation is ongoing and police believe there may be further property crimes that have not yet been reported. RCMP are also advising a few reports of thefts from vehicles in the Shawnigan Lake area over the weekend. Please hide valuables and lock your vehicle’s at all times.
