Happy Holidays from the Community Policing Office

As Christmas will soon be upon us and the New Year just around the corner, it is a perfect time to think back over the past year.  It was a big year for us here at South Cowichan Community Policing as we opened our doors for the first time with a Community Policing Office.   There were so many people that worked together to make it happen.  Thanks to the SCCPAS Board, the office volunteers and all the local businesses that donated time and equipment for the office.  A special thank you to Gail Stroud, our first Program Coordinator, who worked hard at getting the office off to a running start.

Our Speed Watch and Block Watch programs grew with more Block Watch areas and more Speed Watch volunteers.   This year we issued over 40 tickets to youth who were “caught doing something right” in our positive tickets program and we launched our new program Friendly Phones. We also participated in the Cobble Hill Fair, Tour de Rock, Mill Bay Fashion Show and the Mill Bay Centre Chili Cook-off just to name a few.

We have expanded our Police Alerts program which informs the community on the recent criminal activities or safety issues in the area.   You can keep informed through the postings on the Police Alerts web page on this website, the postings in the window at the Community Policing Office or you can join the email fan-out (on the Police Alerts web page).

We have enjoyed are first year open and look forward to working together with you towards Safe Streets, Safe Homes, and Safe Communities. Please note that we will be closed for the season starting Dec 22, and reopening Monday January 7, 2013.

Happy Holiday’s and all the best in the New Year!
